Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 24, 2026 · Effective when you create a BetOnYou account
This Privacy Policy explains how [Legal Entity Name — to be inserted once registered], operating as BetOnYou ("BetOnYou," "we," "us," or "our"), collects, uses, shares, and protects information in connection with the BetOnYou mobile application and related services (together, the "Service"). It should be read alongside our Terms of Use. By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here.
1. Overview
BetOnYou is a structured running accountability program. To run it, we need to know who you are, track your progress against the program's rules, and let your squad see what you've done. That means we collect more than a typical marketing site would — including photos you submit as run proof and messages you post to a squad feed. This policy explains what that includes and why.
The Service is currently a private beta under active development. As features change, the categories of information we collect and how we use them may change too — we'll update this page and the "Last updated" date above when that happens.
2. Information we collect
Account & profile information
When you create an account, we collect your email address, a display name, and a password (stored in hashed form). You may optionally add a profile photo. If you sign up or sign in through a third-party identity provider, we receive the basic profile information that provider shares with us (such as your name and email).
Run proof
To have a run count toward the program, you submit proof — typically a screenshot from a fitness tracking app. We collect and store that image along with whatever data you enter or it contains, which may include distance, duration, pace, route or map imagery, date, and time. Screenshots from third-party fitness apps can also incidentally include information like heart rate, elevation, or location data embedded in the image itself.
Run proof can reveal sensitive information. A fitness-app screenshot may show your running route (and by extension, where you live or train), your heart rate, or other health-adjacent data. Consider what's visible in a screenshot before you submit it — accepted runs are shown to your squad. See Section 6.
Squad & social content
We collect the content you create within squads: chat messages, reactions (tapbacks), reports you file about other users, and the squads you join, create, or are removed from.
Device & usage data
We automatically collect certain technical information when you use the app, including device type and operating system, app version, IP address, general (city/region-level) location derived from your IP address, log data, and how you interact with the Service (such as which screens you visit and when).
Information from others
Other users may submit information about you — for example, by reporting your content or mentioning you in a squad message.
3. How we use your information
We use the information above to:
- Create and maintain your account, and authenticate you when you log in;
- Operate the core program mechanics — evaluate submitted run proof, track your skip count, and update your status (Active, At Risk, Removed);
- Assign you to a squad, or support a squad you create, and display accepted runs, reactions, and messages to your squad members;
- Respond to support requests, reports of abuse, and questions you send us;
- Monitor, secure, and troubleshoot the Service, including detecting fraud, abuse, or misuse of the automated proof-review system;
- Improve and develop the Service, including understanding which features are used and how the program's rules perform in practice; and
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.
4. Automated review & enforcement
Submitted run proof is evaluated using automated checks (for example, confirming that a screenshot's date, activity type, and distance meet the requirements for that day). The outcome of that review determines whether a run is accepted, which in turn affects your skip count and your status within your squad — up to and including automatic removal from a squad, without a human reviewing the decision first.
As described in our Terms of Use, if you believe an automated decision was made in error, you can contact us using the details in Section 15 and we will review it, though we're not obligated to change the outcome.
5. How information is shared
We do not sell your personal information. We share it in the following circumstances:
- With your squad. Accepted runs, your display name, profile photo, squad status, and anything you post to a squad feed are visible to the other members of that squad. See Section 6.
- Service providers. We use third parties to help us operate the Service — for example, cloud hosting and storage for account data and images, and infrastructure to send account-related emails. These providers can only use your information to provide services to us.
- Legal & safety reasons. We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or legal process, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of BetOnYou, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers. If BetOnYou is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy or a successor policy.
- With your consent. We may share information for other purposes if you direct us to.
6. Squad & feed visibility
Squads are a core part of how BetOnYou works, and visibility is the mechanism that makes accountability real — so a meaningful amount of what you do in the app is shown to other users by design, not by accident.
- Members of a public squad can be joined by other users we assign, and can see each other's accepted runs, status, and feed activity.
- Members of a private squad are limited to people invited to that squad, but the same visibility applies within it.
- Reactions, chat messages, and run proof you post to a feed remain visible to squad members for as long as you're in that squad and the content exists, even if you later leave.
- You can report or block another user; blocking prevents them from seeing your activity or contacting you going forward, but does not retroactively delete content already shared.
If you'd rather not have certain details visible to your squad, don't include them in the proof you submit or the messages you post — we can't selectively redact a screenshot after it's posted.
7. Third-party services
BetOnYou is not affiliated with the fitness tracking apps you may use to generate run proof. Anything you do within those apps is governed by their own privacy policies, not this one. We only receive what you choose to submit to us as a screenshot or file upload.
8. Cookies on this website
This marketing website (betonyoutoday.com) loads fonts from Google Fonts, which may involve your browser connecting to Google's servers. We don't currently use analytics or advertising cookies on this website. If that changes, we'll update this section.
9. Data retention
We retain your account information and content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your profile information and remove your access to the Service. Content you posted to a squad feed (such as accepted runs, messages, or reactions) may remain visible to that squad's other members, since it was shared with them at the time you posted it, but it will no longer be attributed to an active account.
We may retain limited information after account deletion where necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, or maintain security logs for a reasonable period.
10. Your choices & rights
You can:
- Access & update your account information from within the app;
- Delete your account at any time, which stops future collection and removes your profile as described in Section 9;
- Block or report other users to limit what they see and how they can interact with you;
- Opt out of non-essential email communications using the unsubscribe link in those emails (you'll still receive account and safety-related messages); and
- Contact us to ask what information we hold about you or to request its deletion, using the details in Section 15.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) or the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to request a copy of your data, correct it, or object to certain processing. Contact us and we'll respond in accordance with applicable law.
11. Children's privacy
As described in our Terms of Use, you must be at least 17 years old to use the Service. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 17. If we learn that we've collected information from a user under 17, we will delete the associated account and information. If you believe a child under 17 has created an account, contact us using the details in Section 15.
12. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls on our systems. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Notify us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
13. International data transfers
The Service is operated from the United States, and information we collect is processed and stored there. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, particularly as the Service moves out of beta. If we make material changes, we'll make a reasonable effort to notify you — for example, in-app or by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the revised policy.
